The Bible on Walking in Faith

The Lord had said to Abram ( later Abraham), “ Go forth from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land l will show you. I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, l will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who will bless you, and whoever curses you, l will curse and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. And so Abram went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he set out for Harran. He took his wife Sarai  ( later ) Sarah, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they have accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there…. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “ To your offspring, l will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Genesis 22:1-7

According to Charles Stanley, walking in faith requires the following:

  1. Learning to listen to God.

  2. Learning to obey God.

  3. Learning to depend on God.

  4. Learning to wait on God.

God acts on behalf of those who wait for him. Isaiah 64:4. Abram failed to wait for God.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had an Egyptian slave named Hagar, so she said to Abram, “ The Lord has kept me from having children. Go , sleep with my slave, perhaps l can build a family through her. Abram agreed to what Sarai said.

Genesis 16:1-2

  1. Learning to acknowledge, repent and profit from failures.

Sometime later, God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here l am” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son whom you love - Isaac - and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burn offering on a mountain I will show you…

He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar and on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the Lord called him from heaven. “Abraham! Abraham!” Here l am, he replied. “Do not lay your hand on the boy, “ he said. “ Do not do anything to him. Now l know that you fear God because you did not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
