The Bible on Who Took Extra Responsibility for the Work of the Lord

  • Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty - five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here l (Caleb) am today, eighty - five years old. I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out, l am just as vigorously to go out to battle now as l was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said. Joshua 14:10-12

  • Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai. Go gather the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, l will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if l perish, l perish… On the day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews overpowered those who hated them. And no one could withstand them, because fear of them fell upon all people. Esther 4:12-14; 9:1-2

  • Saul replied, " You are not able to go against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, he has been a warrior from his youth." But David said to Saul, " Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, l seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear.; this uncircumcised Philistine will be one of them, because he has defiled the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.".... Then David put his hand in his bag and took out one stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone and struck the Philistine and killed him. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. 1 Samuel 17:34-36;49-50
